Amendola, Morrison Earn Spots on NE10 Academic All-Conference Teams
Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference selections
RINDGE, N.H. (July 19, 2018) – Franklin Pierce University has had a pair of student-athletes earn Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference honors for the spring season, as announced on Wednesday by the Conference office. Senior right-hander John Amendola (Wallingford, Conn.) of the baseball team and senior Camden Morrison (Millis, Mass.) of the women’s golf team were both honored by the league. The selected Ravens were among 93 student-athletes across 10 sports honored by the Northeast-10.
To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must fulfill each of the following criteria: (1) participated in at least half of the team’s competitions as a starter or significant contributor, (2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale), and (3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. The teams are chosen by the vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives. In addition, one honoree in each sport is selected as the NE10’s Sport Excellence award winner in that sport.
For Amendola, it marked his second straight Academic All-Conference selection, while Morrison earned the honor for the first time.
Amendola wrapped up his third year at Franklin Pierce this spring, after transferring in from Division I Northeastern, and graduated with a 3.81 GPA as a business major. In 15 appearances on the mound this spring, including 13 starts, he recorded 79 strikeouts over 91.2 innings of work, which amounts to 7.76 strikeouts per nine innings. He allowed 36 runs (29 earned) on 90 hits and walked just eight against the 79 strikeouts on the way to a 2.85 ERA and a 6-2 record with one save. The 91.2 innings pitched were good for second in the NE10, while Amendola also ranked 10th in strikeouts, 14th in ERA and 18th in strikeouts per nine innings.
Morrison wrapped up a decorated career this spring and graduated with a 3.41 GPA as a sports and recreation management major. In 2017-18, she led the Ravens to their first-ever NE10 title, as well as the program’s first-ever team appearance in the NCAA Championship. Morrison advanced to the NCAA Championship National Finals as an individual for the second straight season, and finished 19th in the country. She also placed second in the NE10 Championship for the second straight year.
