McGuckin Lands on NE10 Academic All-Conference Team

Northeast-10 winter Academic All-Conference selections

RINDGE, N.H. (June 11, 2018) – Senior Tom McGuckin (Clayton, N.J.) of the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team has earned Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference honors for the winter season, as announced earlier this spring by the Conference office. He was among 67 student-athletes across seven sports honored by the NE10.

To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must fulfill each of the following criteria: (1) participated in at least half of the team’s competitions as a starter or significant contributor, (2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale), and (3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. The teams are chosen by the vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives. In addition, one honoree in each sport is selected as the NE10’s Sport Excellence award winner in that sport.

For McGuckin, it marked his first career Academic All-Conference selection.

McGuckin was honored with a 3.45 GPA as a psychology major, through his first seven semesters in Rindge. He was an All-NE10 Second Team selection as a senior, after earning NE10 Goaltender of the Year and All-NE10 First Team honors as a junior in 2016-17, when he became the second NE10 Goaltender of the Year in program history. McGuckin was also an NE10 All-Rookie Team selection as a freshman in 2014-15. He has been a mainstay on the NE10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, as he has earned the accolade in every semester he has been eligible. McGuckin finished his career as the school’s all-time goaltending leader in games played (64), minutes played (3485:13) and saves (1940), and also ranked second in program annals in save percentage (.904) and goals-against average (3.53). In his senior campaign, he posted an .895 save percentage and a 3.85 goals-against average over 18 starts and 998:14 minutes.
