Three Student Athletes Earn Academic All-Conference Honors

RINDGE, N.H. (February 22, 2017) – Franklin Pierce University athletes Carly Canavan (Kingston, N.Y.) of the field hockey team, Katie Leidhold (Acushnet, Mass.) of the volleyball team and Hamish Cadigan (Christchurch, New Zealand) of the men's soccer team have all earned Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Honors it was announced Wednesday afternoon by the league office.

To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must fulfill each of the following criteria: (1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions as a starter or significant contributor, (2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale), and (3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. The teams are chosen by the vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives. In addition, one honoree in each sport is selected as the Northeast-10's Sport Excellence award winner in that sport.

Canavan, a junior health science major has a GPA of 3.98 since arriving on campus, earns her second straight Academic All-Conference selection. She started all 17 games for the Ravens, led the team in goals (6), points (12), shot attempts (41) and shots on goal (22). In the program rankings, Canavan is tied for second all-time in career goals (26) and ranks third in points (58).

Leidhold, a biology major and chemistry minor with a 3.85 GPA, is a first time selection to the Academic All-Conference team. This year she was named to the NE10 Third team as she led the Crimson and Grey in kills (341) which was the sixth highest single season kill total, total attacks (1,110) while ranking second in digs (361) and third in service aces (25). In the conference rankings, Leidhold was fourth in kills per set (3.67), sixth in total attacks and ninth in kills. In 11 of her 26 matches, the outside hitter tallied double-digit kills and digs. Leidhold set a personal-best with 35 digs while chipping in a season-high 23 kills at Le Moyne on October 22nd.

Cadigan, the men's soccer team captain, is a junior marketing major and a first time choice to the Academic All-Conference team with a 3.65 cumulative GPA. He was a key factor in the Ravens success this season as a member of the backline. Cadigan set career-highs in goals (3), assists (3) and points (9) this season and scored his first collegiate goal at Stonehill on September 17th.
