Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference selections

Beville Beville was one of two Ravens to earn their second career NE-10 Academic All-Conference selection this spring.

RINDGE, N.H. (July 28, 2015) – Six Franklin Pierce University student-athletes have been named to the spring 2015 Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Team in their respective sports, as announced earlier this summer by the Conference office. Women's track & field saw juniors Nadine Hyde (Maple Valley, Wash.) and Jackie Price (Brick, N.J.) selected, along with junior shortstop Justin Brock (Latham, N.Y.) from the baseball team, junior attack Lauren Beville (Jamesville, N.Y.) from the women's lacrosse team, graduate student outfielder Jamie Wiley (Cape Vincent, N.Y.) from the softball team and sophomore Jon Holmes (Albany, N.Y.) from the men's track & field team. The selected Ravens were among 93 student-athletes across 10 sports honored by the Northeast-10.

To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must fulfill each of the following criteria: (1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions as a starter or significant contributor, (2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale), and (3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. The teams are chosen by the vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives.

For Hyde and Beville, it marks the second straight Academic All-Conference Team selection, while the remaining four earn the accolade for the first time each.

Currently sporting a 3.83 grade-point average as an environmental science major, Hyde was a USTFCCCA All-Region selection in both the hammer and the discus during the outdoor season, and also took home All-Northeast-10 honors in the discus. She wound up second in the Northeast-10 in the discus on the year, with a season-long throw of 37.25 meters, which came at the Northeast-10 Championships, where she earned second place. Hyde also finished the year fifth in the Northeast-10 in the hammer throw (44.74m) and 15th in the shot put (10.77m). In Championship action this spring, she finished fourth in the hammer at the Northeast-10 Championships, while later placing 22nd in the hammer and 16th in the discus at the New England Championships.

Price, who holds a 3.92 grade-point average as a health sciences major, finished the spring seventh in the Northeast-10 in the 100-meter hurdles, with a run of 14.93 seconds at MIT's Sean Collier Invitational on April 18. At the Northeast-10 Championships, she placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles, ran the second leg on the fourth-place 4x100-meter relay and ran the lead lap in the seventh-place 4x400-meter relay. A week later, Hyde placed 17th in the 100-meter hurdles, and was a member of the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays, which finished 18th and 21st, respectively.

Carrying a 3.48 grade-point average as an accounting major, Brock earned the first All-Northeast-10 selection of his career this spring, as he earned a spot on the Second Team. He started 45 of the team's 52 games at shortstop and put together a .327/.363/.467 line over 150 at-bats (49-for-150). In the Northeast-10, Brock finished the season tied for third in sacrifice hits (7), tied for fourth in stolen bases (29-for-31), tied for ninth in home runs (4) and ranked 12th in runs scored (38). Nationally, he finished the season ranked ninth in the country in stolen bases per game (0.64) and tied for 10th in stolen bases.

Beville, a social work & counseling major with a 3.87 grade-point average, was the team's third-leading scorer this spring, as she tallied 33 points on 25 goals (also third on the team) and eight assists (second) while starting all 15 games. Along the way, she added seven ground balls, a team-best 42 draw controls and eight caused turnovers. Beville finished second on the team in both shot attempts (88) and shots on goal (57).

Holmes Holmes was one of four first-time honorees for the Ravens.

Currently holding a 3.64 grade-point average while pursuing her master's degree in general special education, Wiley had one of the most-decorated seasons in the history of the softball program this spring. In her final year with the Ravens, she landed on the All-Northeast-10 First Team and later followed that with the program's first-ever All-East Region selection, as she earned a Second Team nod from Daktronics. While playing in 26 of the team's 27 games, Wiley put together a .415/.473/.561 slash line over 82 at-bats (34-for-82), as she led the team in batting average and on-base percentage, while finishing third in slugging percentage. Within the Northeast-10, she ranked fourth in batting average, fifth in on-base percentage and 14th in slugging percentage. Along the way, Wiley hit seven doubles, one triple and one home run, scored 15 runs, drove in 10 runs, walked seven times against seven strikeouts and stole five bases in eight attempts.

Holmes, a graphic communications major with a 3.81 grade-point average, finished the outdoor season tied for 10th in the Northeast-10 in the 800 meters (1:54.03) and 15th in the 1500 meters (3:58.68). He also joined the 4x800-meter team at New England Championships, where he ran the anchor leg on a quartet which placed 20th.
